Your Glasgow Food Guide

My first blog post is going to be all about food. I am not sure about you but I know for a fact, that my life literally revolves around food! I am constantly planning lunches and dinners with friends and family and constantly thinking of new places to try. Here I am going to share with you a few of my favourite food spots which you could visit. Hopefully you will find some inspiration!

La Vita Spuntini

    Location:

      40 Gordon St, Glasgow, G1 3PU

      199 Byers Rd, Glasgow, G12 8TN

La Vita Spuntini is an Italian tapas restaurant which appeared on the Glasgow high street just under a year ago. They have two restaurants, one of which is located in the upmarket West End of Glasgow and the other being in Glasgow city centre. These locations are very accessible as the train station and subway are situated just a short distance from each of the restaurants (which is ideal for walking off the great amounts of food which you will consume when you visit!). The elegant design of the restaurant sets a warm and relaxing atmosphere whilst enjoying a delicious lunch or dinner with your family or friends. I can say from my past experiences in La Vita Spuntini that the service is impeccable and that the food does not disappoint! When visiting Spuntini I am normally with my boyfriend meaning the amount of tapas dishes and main meals ordered are based on feeding a party of 2. I personally feel that ordering one large pasta and a small tapas pizza to share is the best way to start. We then go on to order approximately 5-6 more tapas dishes to satisfy our food cravings! However saying this we LOVE our food so this may seem like an overload of food to you guys reading the blog but it is too delicious not to. I shall now recommend just a few of my personal favourites.

Tapas dishes
  • Crostini Piccante
  • Melenzane e Zucchine Parmigiana
  • Patate Arresto
  • Anatra al Nero
  • Spezzatino Si Pollo con Pasta fritta
  • Italian Beef Stew

  • Italian Spring Roll
  • Alette Si Pollo
  • Polpette Formaggio
  • Calamari Fritti

All of the dishes mentioned above come with a short description of the dish itself on the menu. I have only provided the names of each dish for your convenience.

    Miller and Carter

    Location:

    47 St Vincent St, Glasgow G2 5QX
Stewarton Rd, Newton Mearns, Glasgow G77 6NP
    29-31 Fredrick St, Edinburgh EH2 2ND

Miller and Carter is a lavish and sophisticated steakhouse which has branches in Glasgow City Centre, Edinburgh and Newton Mearns. The restaurant itself is highly established and is known as being an extremely reputable steakhouse. Having visited all three of the restaurant locations I can say that the ambience in each restaurant has a slightly different feel. If you are in the mood for fancy date night and wanting to get all dressed up then Glasgow City Centre Miller and Carter is the one for you. It has beautiful high ceilings and a gorgeous bar to lounge in whilst waiting for your table. However if you are after a cosy romantic date night or a more casual but still elegant lunch or dinner then I would recommend the Newton Mearns restaurant. It is smaller and has a more warm feel when dining (personally this is what I love and this is the branch in which I always visit). Moreover despite the atmosphere changes the food always remains mouth watering and of high quality. Miller and Carter offer a high standard of food, drink and service which can be seen through the prices they charge. However to compensate for this they offer a range of menus and promotions so that they can cater to a wider audience.

I find the lunch menu of great value for money as you are still experiencing the joys of Miller and Carter for a very reasonable price. The set lunch menu runs from Monday to Friday 12-5pm and Saturday 12-3pm. They offer 2 courses for only £10.95 (a bargain if you ask me!).

If steak is not quite up your street Miller and Carter's A la carte menu has you covered. They offer much more than just steak, for example, burgers, salads, pasta, gluten free, vegetarian options and a menu for kids. They really are thinking of everyone.

Being the huge steak lover that I am I have not yet ventured out and tasted other options on the menu. I tend to stick to my 12oz steak with a side of loaded beef fries and garlic mushrooms. Delicious!

    Chaakoo Bombay

    Location:

    79 St Vincent St, Glasgow G2 5TF

Chaakoo Bombay is a vibrant Iranian inspired cafe situated in the heart of Glasgow. Due to its locations being right in the middle of town it is easily accessible as the train station is a short walk away. This restaurant, like the first, is also tapas which means you will have a lovely variety of food each time you visit, which is good news if you are a foodie like me! The restaurant itself has a very relaxing and traditional feel to it as it is meant to give you the same vibes as an Iranian cafe would. I can say from previous experience in the restaurant that the service is fantastic and they cater to all your desires. They recommend the best dishes to try and what combos are the best. The service is also fast paced, however saying this, it does not take away from the quality of the food- what more could you want! The Iranian/Indian style food is out of this world and really captures the authenticity of a true Iranian Cafe.

Whenever I have visited I have always been with my boyfriend so once again the food recommended is typically for a hungry pair of people. Ideally we would order 5 tapas dishes to share which can include little sides such as pakora or kebabs- they do not all have to be curries. On top of this we tend to order a garlic naan, a portion of rice and a small raita (yoghurt). As you can see it is starting to seem like a lot of food however these are must haves to eat with a curry. I shall now recommend some of my personal favourites off of the Chaakoo Bombay menu.

    Grilled Meat Tapas

    • Tandoori spiced wings
    • Seekh kebab
    • Spiced lamb chops
    Curries

    • Rogan josh
    • Lamb Saagwalla- recommended by the restaurant itself
    • Garlic chilli chicken
    • Butter chicken
    • Garlic lamb bhuna
    • Aloo baigan
    • Keema matar
    Sides
    • Raita
    • Masala fries
    • Garlic naan
